Overview
An Irish manufacturer needed a packaged shutdown contractor to deliver mechanical repairs, fabrication and small modifications inside a single planned weekend outage. NR Engineering scoped, priced and delivered the package end-to-end.
Scope of works
- Pre-shutdown survey and scope freeze
- Workshop prefabrication of replacement parts
- Mechanical removal of failed equipment
- Site welding repairs
- Installation of replacement fabrications
- Re-commissioning support
Challenges
Total downtime was limited to 48 hours and production had to restart on schedule on Monday morning. Multiple parallel work streams had to be coordinated without compromising safety.
Solution
We froze the scope two weeks ahead of the shutdown and prefabricated all replacement components in our workshop. A larger-than-usual site crew was mobilised for the weekend, working in parallel teams under one site supervisor.
Materials used
Fabrication process
Replacement components were fabricated in advance to drawings agreed at the pre-shutdown survey. All welding was carried out by coded welders with WPS coverage as required.
Installation process
Site work was sequenced around the shutdown plan, with isolation, removal, repair, install and reinstatement coordinated by an NR Engineering supervisor on site for the duration of the outage.

Results
Production restarted on schedule on Monday morning. The client's engineering manager described the delivery as the smoothest planned shutdown the site had run in years.
