Safety Cage Ladders

Caged ladders for safe fixed access above 3 metres — designed, fabricated and installed to EN ISO 14122-4 across Ireland.

Industrial Access Systems

Specialist safety cage ladders — designed, fabricated, installed.

Where a fixed ladder is more than 3 metres high, a safety cage (or an approved fall arrest system) is required under EN ISO 14122-4. NR Engineering manufactures fully compliant caged ladders for industrial, commercial, utility and water-sector clients across Ireland.

Our safety cage ladders are designed around your structure: stringer profile, cage hoop spacing, vertical bars, rest landings, top-of-ladder handover details and entry/exit safety gates are all configured to suit the application.

From a single rooftop ladder on a Drogheda factory to long runs of caged access on a wastewater treatment site, we deliver caged ladders that pass independent inspection and keep your workforce safe.

Capabilities

What's included

EN ISO 14122-4 compliant

Cage geometry, rung pitch, side clearance and rest landing intervals all designed to the standard.

Hoop or vertical-bar cages

Specified to match your safety policy and inspection regime.

Galvanised or stainless

Finishes for industrial, coastal, water industry or hygienic environments.

Self-closing safety gates

Top landing gates to prevent open-edge falls.

Intermediate rest landings

For ladders over 6m, rest platforms are integrated into the fabrication.

Fall arrest compatible

Where a cage is not desired, we install certified vertical fall arrest systems.

How we deliver

From survey to handover

  1. Step 1

    Survey & loading review

Site visit to confirm dimensions, fixings and loads on the supporting structure.

  2. Step 2

    Design & calculations

Fabrication drawings and, where needed, signed structural calculations.

  3. Step 3

    Fabrication & galvanising

Welded in Drogheda then galvanised or polished to specification.

  4. Step 4

    Install & inspection

Installed with lifting and access equipment, then independently inspected on handover.

Typical applications

Where we apply this work

  • Rooftop and plantroom access
  • Silos, hoppers and elevated bins
  • Water towers and reservoirs
  • Pump station vent stacks
  • Telecoms and antenna structures
  • Industrial chimneys and ducts

A cage ladder is a piece of life-safety infrastructure — when designed badly it actually increases risk, snagging fall victims or making rescue impossible. We get cage ladders right because we know the standard inside out and because every one is fabricated by Irish welders we employ directly, not subcontracted out.

We are happy to work alongside your H&S consultant or insurance inspector. On request we provide signed load calculations from a chartered engineer for the supporting structure connection — particularly important when a caged ladder is being added to an existing building.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Call us on 087 253 7966 or email nreng1@gmail.com.

When is a safety cage actually required?+

Under EN ISO 14122-4 a fixed ladder above 3m generally requires either a safety cage or an approved vertical fall arrest system. For ladders above 10m, rest landings every 6m are required.

Is fall arrest better than a cage?+

Modern guidance from many H&S bodies favours certified vertical fall arrest systems over cages because they protect the user across the entire climb. We fabricate ladders compatible with leading fall arrest systems if you prefer that approach.

Can you retrofit cages to existing ladders?+

Yes — we routinely retrofit safety cages, rest landings and self-closing gates to existing ladders that no longer meet current standards.

Do you handle installation as well as fabrication?+

Yes — we fabricate in our Drogheda workshop and install on site with our own crews, lifting equipment and Safe Pass certified operatives. One contractor, one point of accountability, from drawing board to handover.

How do I get a quote?+

Send drawings, specifications or a brief description by email to nreng1@gmail.com, or call/WhatsApp 087 253 7966. We'll review the scope and come back to you with pricing and a realistic lead time, usually within one working day.
