Overview
NR Engineering delivered a complete access and lifting package for a new wastewater pumping station. Scope included a 316 stainless wet well ladder, davit and lifting bracket for pump retrieval, kiosk access ladder and top-slab handrails.
Scope of works
- Wet well 316 stainless ladder
- Top-slab handrail system
- Davit and lifting socket for pump removal
- Kiosk access ladder
- Installation and operator handover
- Inspection certificate and load plate
Challenges
Wastewater pumping stations are confined-space environments with significant H₂S exposure — material selection is critical. The lifting davit also had to be certified for the maximum pump removal load, with a load plate fitted on site.
Solution
All wet well fabrications were 316 stainless. The davit and lifting socket were independently load-tested before installation and supplied with a certified load plate. Site installation was completed inside a single weekend.
Materials used
Fabrication process
All wet well components were TIG welded in our stainless workshop. The davit arm was load-tested at certified test loads with documentation supplied to the client.
Installation process
Installation was carried out by Safe Pass and confined-space competent crews working to the operator's permit-to-work. The lifting equipment was load-checked on site before final sign-off.

Results
The pumping station was commissioned on programme with a fully compliant access and lifting package supporting safe pump retrieval for the asset's operational life.
